Tom Daley‘s live BBC Olympics interview was interrupted by his 15-month-old son throwing his juice cup at him after his silver medal win.

The team GB icon, 30, was nearly soaked in juice after Phoenix chucked his bottle down from the stands onto the floor this morning.

Daley had just secured his fifth Olympic medal by finishing second in the men’s synchronised 10m diving alongside teammate Noah Williams.

The pair pulled off a succession of near-perfect dives to secure their silver medals in the event, placing only behind  China‘s Lian Junjie and Yang Hao who took gold.

The incident occurred when Daley and Williams were being interviewed by the BBC shortly after receiving their medals.

Daley was trying to answer a question on his future in diving and whether he would compete again in four years time.

The 30-year-old then suddenly stopped talking and looked down at the floor where he saw Phoenix’s juice cup.

Explaining what happened, Daley said: ‘Phoenix is trying to kill people by throwing his juice cup at people.’

The interviewer then joked that Phoenix was making his point known that ‘he wanted to have those memories in four years’.

As well as by Phoenix, Daley was being cheered on at the event by his American screenwriter partner Dustin Lance Black and their eldest son Robbie, six.

Robbie – who was wearing a ‘Team Daley’ t-shirt featuring his father’s face – was filmed enthusiastically waving a Union Jack flag.

Daley’s grandparents Rosemary and David Daley, both 76,- also watched on at home in Plymouth, Devon and said they couldn’t be prouder.

David said: ‘We’re highly delighted really.

‘We knew it would be a problem to beat the Chinese.

‘I think Tom dived much the same but it’s just that the Chinese were that much better on the day.

‘If the Chinese had slipped up on the last dive it would have changed everything.’

Rosemary says she still gets nervous watching her grandson dive.

She said: ‘All the family are proud of him.

‘I get butterflies watching him.

‘I’ve always done that.’

The grandparents were delighted to spot Daley’s young family supporting him in Paris.

Rosemary said: ‘You could see him on the telly – little Robbie’s eyes peeping over.

‘I just hope he remembers it.’

The Paris Olympics was the first time Daley and his partner have decided to reveal their boys’ faces to the world.

The 30-year-old has been competing in what is now his fifth games after making his debut at 14 years old in 2008.

He won his first medal, a bronze at London 2012. He won a second bronze at Rio 2016.

And he went on to win gold and bronze at the Tokyo Games in 2021.

Tom had married American screenwriter Dustin Lance Black in 2017.

And after Tokyo he moved to the USA with their two sons and effectively retired from diving.

But he returned to the sport in 2023, after a two-year-break, and started competition with new dive partner Noah Williams.

The GB duo arrived at the Aquatics Centre in the French capital to rapturous applause and cheers for the 10m platform.

There were more cheers as they approached the high-diving board for their first dive before there was a deathly silence.

Their first dive was dubbed a ‘classy opening’ by Leon Taylor commenting on the BBC, getting over the fifty-point mark with 53.40 and joining the leaderboard with the Chinese.

Williams had a slight wobble as he backed on to the board but it didn’t impact the dive.

Daley and Williams shared the silver medal position with Canada after round one.

On the second round of diving, the crowd could be heard saying, ‘Oooh’ with Daley and Williams’s stunning twisting dive.

They managed to achieve silver position after the third round, narrowly beating the Canadians.

After the fourth round, China was a clear 13 points ahead with Team GB securing second, 16 points ahead of Canada.

The fifth round solidified their silver position.
