A care home worker filmed himself suffocating a 94-year-old woman to death by wrapping clingfilm around her head, before sending the footage to a female friend he was trying to impress, a court has heard.

Christopher Johansson, 49, has been sentenced to life in prison for killing the elderly woman during a care home visit in Strömstad, Sweden

Parts of the sequence of the murder were filmed by the 49-year-old and shared in a group for Fortnite gamers, Expressen report.

The 94-year-old woman was found dead in her home last November and, as she was believed to have died a natural death, she was cremated and buried.

However, several weeks later the gamers contacted the police and told them that they suspected the woman had been murder.

In a press release by Uddevalla District Court, it stated how the woman was very old, physically inferior to Johansson and defenseless.

‘The incident took place in the woman’s own home, where the 49-year-old was at work with the task of helping the woman. It must have been combined with a strong fear of death and severe suffering for the woman,’ wrote the district court.

Chatting with one person in the gaming group, Johansson said he had dealt with his first death at his job in home care in Strömstad municipality.

A few hours later, he wrote to the woman again: ‘Hypothetically, could you be excited by the power to kill someone that might happen today?’

When she answered yes, he then sent the woman a video showing parts of the murder.

In the roughly three and a half minute long clip, the 94-year-old can be seen with plastic wrap wrapped around her face. On several occasions a hand then reaches out towards her and takes a stranglehold on her neck.

Proceeding this, Johansson handed himself over to the police and was charged in May this year.

During the investigation it emerged that he has an interest in content that depicts murder, torture and other serious violent crimes.  However, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office, he did not suffer from a serious mental disorder during the act.

In addition to receiving a life sentence, Johansson must also pay damages to the woman’s daughters of SEK 110,000 (£7,935) each and compensate the estate for the funeral costs.
