Trafalgar hit-and-run: Major update after body is found on the side of the road

A man has been arrested after a body was found on the side of the road following a suspected hit-and-run.

A motorist made the grim discovery on Waterloo Road at Trafalgar, in Victoria’s south-east, at about 10.30am on Sunday.

Police are yet to identify the man found dead, however he is understood to be in his 60s.

A 43-year-old man from Fumina South handed himself in on Tuesday night and is assisting police with their enquiries.

Victoria Police strongly suspect that a vehicle is involved in the death of the unidentified man after investigators found bits of indicator lights at the scene.

Fragments of glass and and plastic were also strewn several metres along the road.

Detective Sergeant Peter Romanis said the man was not wearing any shoes and police believe he may have been homeless

‘It may be indicative that he might have been sleeping rough, but until we identify who he is, we’re working on a number of different avenues of inquiry,’ he said.
