A historic three-story Victorian just hit the market in Galveston, TX, for $749,000—and it has serious curb appeal.

Known as the Cameron Historic House, the 2,521-square-foot property at 1126 Church St. is located in the East End Historic District. It has four bedrooms, a widow’s walk, and lots of character.

The house, which sits on a 6,460-square-foot lot and boasts gulf and bay views, was last open to the public in 2019 during the 46th annual Galveston Historic Homes Tour.

A home with history

The residence was designed by British architect Henry Collier Cooke and built in 1891 for merchant Allen Cameron and his wife, Lulu Aschoff.

Originally from Ashton-under-Lyne, England, Cooke emigrated to the U.S. Later in his career, he designed homes and buildings in both Galveston and Houston.

This residence features double wrap-around galleries, an asymmetrical facade, and a widow’s walk.

From the widow’s walk, “you can see the ocean,” listing agent Eric Tucker says of his favorite feature of the home.

The kitchen has updated appliances and hardware.

In addition to four bedrooms, two full baths, and two half-baths, the layout includes a study, sitting room, formal dining room, and kitchen with a breakfast nook.

The sellers, who purchased the property in 2015, recently added a tankless water heater, gas lighting, and a new air-conditioning unit upstairs. The upstairs bathroom was updated and features a gorgeous soaking tub.

The sellers also have city-approved plans for a garage apartment addition. Currently, the home has a two-car garage.

Prime location

The home is less than a mile from the Gulf of Mexico and close to Adoue Park, John Sealy Hospital, and several churches.

“Galveston is very diverse,” Tucker says. “I mean, we’ve got everything on this one small island from historic to modern.”
