A police spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia on Friday that officers reported ‘a man suffering mental health issues caused harm to himself with a knife’ and there was no threat to the public.

‘He’s now in hospital getting the treatment he needs,’ the spokesperson said

The latest incident comes only a day after a teenager was rushed to hospital with serious injuries after being allegedly stabbed outside a Melbourne shopping centre.

The alleged incident happened near the CS Square Shopping Centre in Caroline Springs in Melbourne’s west on Thursday when police were called to Lake Street near the shopping centre at 5.15pm.

By the time police arrived the suspects had left the scene.

The teen aged in his late teens suffered stab wounds to his hand and upper body and was rushed to Royal Melbourne Hospital.

Paramedics said the boy was in a serious condition, however police said his injures were ‘life-threatening’.

‘Investigators are still trying to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and the investigation is ongoing but it is believed the offenders have left the area,’ Victoria Police said in a statement.
