A burger van boss has hit out after a woman slapped him with a miserable one-star review for a very specific reason.

The customer gave a poor anonymous review of Gooey Chewy Cheese burger stall, which operates in Cwmbran, south Wales, which left its owner ‘gutted’.

The business shared the review – after it was deleted by its original poster – which read: ‘Wasn’t able to try the food as they’d ran out of burgers before 7pm’.

Responding, the owner wrote: ‘Well I’m absolutely gutted that you have left me a one-star review for selling out of burgers. Blown my mind a little bit.

‘We sold more burgers than we usually do at that time. Not sure this is worth ruining the perfect five-star rating we have over an item being sold out though? This is something that is totally out of our hands.’

‘Hope to see you again soon… and for both our sakes I hope to God we haven’t sold out of whatever you order next time.’

However, social media reaction on the issue was divided, as some users leapt to the woman’s defence, posting: ‘Running out of stock can at times be a legitimate gripe that should affect your rating.

‘Yes, your product may be great, but if you consistently sell out and can’t fill orders, that shows poor planning and management. It’s a customer service failure.’

Another reaction read: ‘Why do businesses think it’s okay to shame someone for an honest review?’

‘Something is wrong with you to take a review that someone had to leave without trying the food which is an honest review of a negative experience, and shame them.’

Another user also asked why the takeaway’s issue of running out of stock was out of its hands, remarking: ‘Who places the food order again? Who preps for the day? Lol and running out of burgers when it’s one of two entrees you offer is pretty wild.’

However, the comments were not only made in support of the customer, as others felt the one-star review was harsh and uncalled for – while pointing out that the business was ‘doing something right’.

Further comments read: ‘If they’re selling out early just says to me they’re doing something right with what they have’.

‘Any normal person would read that post and think well the company must be doing something right to have run out of burgers. As for the commenter, they are just trying to ruin the reputation of the business.’

Addressing the flurry of comments following the one-star review, the business owner said: ‘I shared [the review] because I found it funny. She was not bullied into deleting her review.

‘It was deleted because of my reply to her. I’m guessing even she agreed that it was a bit unfair.’
