‘I am still processing it to I don’t really believe it. It is such an overwhelming amount of adrenaline,’ rower Tom DIgby said post-race.

‘You just have to stick to Harry’s every word. He did an amazing job in that race and I didn’t care where we were I was just doing what I could.

‘You focus on his voice, focus on the feeling and then suddenly you are across the line it just all goes very quickly.’

This morning has also proved to be fruitful for women’s eight rowing team, who won a bronze at securing a seventh medal in the sport for  Team GB in this year’s Olympics.

With Henry Fieldman at the helm, Roan McKellar, Holly Dunford, Emily Ford, Lauren Irwin, Eve Stewart, Hattie Taylor and Annie Campbell-Orde pulled their way to third place.

The race proved to be a tense race at the Brits were in fourth place for a large portion of the race.

However they managed to pull themselves back into contention for a medal placement in the final moments leading up to the finish line.

Favourites Romania made off to a strong start and continued to maintain their dominant lead as they raced to the finish line.

The women were ecstatic as they took to the podium to receive their well-earned bronze medals.

This third-place medal joins GB’s silver in Rio in 2016 and was redemption for their last place finish in Tokyo three years ago.

This comes shortly after Team GB missed out by a hair’s breadth in the men’s coxless pair final on Friday morning.

Oliver Wynne-Griffith and Tom George put forward their best efforts, pushing hard to established a lead over Romania after the first 1000m.

However, Croatian brothers Martin and Valent Sinkovic overtook them in the final 60 metres of the race after a relentless charge, leaving the Brits to settle for silver.
