A hand-to-hand combat instructor and former special forces soldier has posted that he was attacked by a knife-wielding mugger straight after giving a class in blade fighting skills.

Paul Cale, who is the CEO of self-defence company Kinetic Fighting, posted to Facebook on Saturday that he had just been attacked.

‘Firstly, I’m well and uninjured. I’m with Police making a report to detectives and I want to commend Queensland Police on their quick response to my emergency call,’ he wrote.

‘The irony is not lost on me being attacked by a knife wielding mugger right after teaching my edge weapon awareness and defence workshop in Brisbane today.

‘Un-f**cking believable! ‘P.S. Old mate did take a boot in the face, however.’

Those commenting on the incident were quick to point out the mugger’s bad luck or plain stupidity.

‘Bloody hell, worst bloke in Australia to try that on!!,’ one said.

‘WE WANT THE FOOTAGE!… for training purposes only..,’ said another Facebook user.

Mr Cale and Queensland Police have been contacted for comment.

On the Kinetic Fighting website it says Mr Cale has been involved with the Australian Army for 30 years, and for most of that time he was in Special Forces but now delivers combat training for defence personnel.

After five tours of Afghanistan as a commando Mr Cale developed close combat courses and centres for soldiers becoming ‘the Army’s subject-matter expert in delivering the Army Combatives Program’.
