Donald Trump is the best president in US history and comparable to Sir Winston Churchill, his son Eric claimed as he jetted into Scotland yesterday.

The 40-year-old said his father and Britain’s wartime leader share similar traits, with both men funny, politically incorrect and blessed with an indomitable fighting spirit.

At the family’s new MacLeod Trump International Golf Links course in Aberdeenshire – named in honour of the former president’s Scottish mother, Mary Anne MacLeod – he added: ‘He’s the best president his country has seen ever.

‘You could draw a lot of parallels to Churchill for my father. At times they were funny and maybe politically incorrect, but also incredibly effective.

‘The fact my father was as effective as he was, the fact he wants to be a cheerleader for our country versus being a globalist, the fact he doesn’t want wars and wants to end reckless spending and wants to have the greatest economy and the safest borders and no fentanyl and no drugs and the greatest educational system on Earth – that’s why people like him.

‘And they also like him because he’s a fighter and he doesn’t try to be politically correct. He says what everybody is thinking. He can’t be bought and sold like every other politician because he doesn’t need their money.’

Referencing the attempt on his father’s life at a rally in Pennsylvania on July 13, Mr Trump said: ‘When he stood up and he has blood running down his face and he chants “Fight, fight, fight”, it’s exactly what our country needs.

‘There’s no fight in our country right now.’

The businessman, who is the third of the Republican presidential candidate’s children with ex-wife Ivana, says the US Secret Service has questions to answer about the security lapses that almost cost his father his life.

He said: ‘It should never have been allowed to happen. It was a failure to keep a former president safe and a future president safe.

‘Think about the draconian outcome that could have had for world history.’ Turning his attention to the presidential race, with Kamala Harris now the Democrats’ nominee after President Joe Biden stood aside, Mr Trump said: ‘Kamala Harris isn’t a fighter.

‘There’s no energy there. The Democrats are not cheerleaders and they are not advocates for the US. They’re not effective, their policies are broken.’

He added that although Ms Harris was in charge of artificial intelligence policy in government, ‘she couldn’t spell AI’, and under her watch America had taken in 12 million illegal migrants – or ‘two Scotlands’.

Perhaps Mr Trump’s wife Lara, 41, who is now co-chair of the Republican Party, would be better suited?

Effusive in his praise for the mother to their two children, Mr Trump said she ‘100 per cent’ could be in the White House one day.

He added: ‘She’s beautiful. She’s smart. She’s tough. She’s amazing in every way. There’s no question she could do it.’

Mr Trump has also been linked with a future tilt at the presidency but he insists if he did run, it would cost him financially as the Trumps are ‘the first family in American history that’s lost substantial wealth’ while in office.

He added: ‘We’ve spent hundreds of millions of dollars on legal fees, because that’s been the Democrats’ strategy.

‘They’ve dragged him into every single courthouse, they’ve subpoenaed the hell out of every single one of us for fun.

‘They’ve tried to take us down, they tried to kill him. And yet we fight on and yes, I think I could do the political thing as well as anyone if I chose to do it. I just don’t know if I will choose to do it.’
