Two teenagers were hurt — one seriously — when a pickup truck slammed into the back of their Amish horse-drawn buggy in upstate New York, sending both hurling through the air, state police said. The 16-year-old boy and his 14-year-old female companion were riding along Route 26 in the town of Ava around 1:50 p.m.

The 16-year-old boy and his 14-year-old female companion were riding along Route 26 in the town of Ava around 1:50 p.m. on Friday when they were struck by a 2014 RAM 1400, troopers said Sunday.

State police said a 16-year-old boy was seriously injured when he and a 14-year-old girl were thrown from their Amish buggy after getting rear-ended by a pick up truck in upstate New York on Friday. New York State Police

The teenagers, who were not identified by police, were ejected from the buggy.

The girl was taken to Wynn Hospital in Utica, where she was treated and released.

The other teen was rushed to Upstate University Hospital “with serious injuries.”

Police did not mention the condition of the horse.

State police did not immediately respond to a request for further details on Sunday.

The driver of the truck, identified by police as Alexander Pfendler, 33, was not injured. No charges have been filed in the case but state police said an investigation into the mishap is continuing.
