A Long Island woman drowned rescuing her dog who had jumped into a local river Sunday morning, cops said.

Catherine Andreau, 62, of Babylon, was staying in a houseboat along the Connetquot River in Oakdale when her pooch suddenly plunged into the waters around 1:30 a.m., according to Suffolk County Police.

Several hours later – just after 8 a.m. – an Oakdale Yacht Club worker spotted a woman floating in the river and called 911, cops said.

The woman — later identified as Andreau — was pulled from the waters of the six-mile-long river and pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The dog, meanwhile, survived the ordeal and was taken to a local veterinarian for treatment.

Authorities described Andreau’s death as an apparent drowning based on preliminary evidence. The Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office will make an official determination.
