However, when they got there, the dank space reminded them of something more sinister in the garden.
He referenced the 2022 horror movie Barbarian, which heavily features a nightmarish basement bomb shelter.
‘The first thing I thought was that movie Barbarian, or that scene in Silence of the Lambs where Jodie Foster is in Buffalo Bill’s basement, and you see the rotting corpse in the bathtub. I didn’t go down that day, as you can imagine,’ he said.

Kyle even joked in a Reddit post that ‘it’s definitely gonna get nicknamed The Sex Dungeon.’
He told Newsweek that the shelter really was the only downside to what they thought was a wonderful opportunity.
‘My wife was hired at a nearby university, so I came out ahead of time to meet a real estate agent and view some homes,’ he said.
‘The house was in great shape. It was the best I had seen that whole weekend, but there was just one catch: It had a creepy bomb shelter.’
While they recoiled at the shelter, they referred to the property they’d bought as their ‘dream home’.
It took Kyle some time to even venture out into the shelter for worries of ‘the state it might have been in’.
‘I was pretty convinced it was going to be super dank and gross down there. I mentally prepared for the worst – maybe a few inches of murky water on the floor or a dirty, old mattress,’ he added.

‘Luckily, it was only sort of creepy, and there weren’t any poisonous bugs or snakes down there.’
Kyle, no longer fearing the underground bomb shelter, now plans to make it a space for his art.
‘I definitely want to make it feel less like a subterranean concrete box. I kind of made up my mind the moment I saw the space, as I have always dreamt of having a music room,’ he said.
He plans to put his drums and amplifiers inside to take advantage of the room’s soundproof qualities.
The original Reddit post has since gotten a wild reaction, with over 31,000 people in shock over his find.
While many were stunned, some of them had ideas for turning into a room similar to what Kyle plans to do, such as a man cave or a den.
Ultimately, he’s pleased with the response and even gotten some helpful tips as he begins working on his new music room.
‘I’m glad I posted about it as some Redditors pointed out the poisonous gas hazards I hadn’t considered, and others pointed out structural concerns. It prompted me to contact an inspector and have the walls and ceiling examined,’ he said.
