A photo of Kitana’s fan has appeared online, shared by series co-creator Ed Boon on X (formerly Twitter). The image, taken from the upcoming Mortal Kombat 2 movie, shows the Princess of Edenia’s fingers gripping her iconic accessory.

“I recently saw an unfinished cut screening of the Mortal Kombat 2 movie,” Boon tweeted. “During the screening, I broke into [producer] @Todd_Garner’s phone, found this image from the film, and sent it to my phone. I can leak stuff too.” Garner responded to Boon’s “leak,” tweeting, “Damn you @noobde!!! I was wondering what you were doing. You beat me to it.”

A crowd at San Diego Comic-Con got an early look at the image, as Boon showed it to the audience during last week’s big Mortal Kombat panel. It was only on the screen for a short time, likely to avoid leaks, and wasn’t released publicly on that day.

Mortal Kombat 2 will continue the story of Cole Young, the protagonist of the 2021 film. Adeline Rudolph will portray Kitana, and the movie will feature other popular characters, including Quan Chi, played by Damon Herriman. Simon McQuoid, who directed the first film, is returning to direct the sequel.

Joining the cast are The Boys star Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, Marytn Ford as Shao Kahn, Desmond Chiam as King Jerrod, Ana Thu Nguyen as Sindel, and Damon Herriman as Quan Chi. Most of the cast from the 2021 film will also be returning, including Lewis Tan, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Tadanobu Asano, and Mehcad Brooks.

Also during San Diego Comic-Con, NetherRealm Studios, the team behind Mortal Kombat 1, revealed its next batch of DLC characters. Included as part of the Khaos Reigns expansion, this new batch of characters features six fighters, with three coming from the Mortal Kombat franchise and the other three from iconic movies of the 1980s and ’90s, like Ghost Face.

The film is set to release on October 24, 2025, and will be available in IMAX theaters.
