Sony Santa Monica is reportedly working on its first new IP since the God of War series in 2005.

According to an employee’s LinkedIn profile in the “about” section, they came back to Sony Santa Monica as a character supervisor, looking after the entire character-development pipeline on a new IP. Previously, they worked at both Naughty Dog and Sony Santa Monica before going to Striking Distance Studios to work on The Callisto Protocol and Unknown Worlds for the next Subnautica game.

After the launch of God of War Ragnarok on PS4 and PS5 back in 2022, producer Cory Barlog said that the studio was working on many different projects. However, he didn’t provide specifics on any of them. Sony Santa Monica was also reportedly working on an open-world sci-fi game before it was canceled.

It seems like we may not see the new IP for a while, as Sony already said that there wouldn’t be any new major franchise games until April 2025 at the earliest.

In the meantime, God of War Ragnarok is coming to PC on September 19. PS5 fans can still look forward to games like Astro Bot, Concord, and Lego Horizon Adventures later this year.
