Angels-Yankees rained out Tuesday; twin bill Wednesday
NEW YORK – Tuesday’s game between the Yankees and Angels has been postponed because of inclement weather.
The game will be made up as part of a single-admission doubleheader on Wednesday, which will begin at 4:05 p.m. ET. Yankees right-hander Luis Gil will pitch the first game for New York, while right-hander Will Warren – the No. 7 prospect in the Yankees organization according to MLB Pipeline – will be recalled as the 27th man and take the mound in the second game.
Gil has been the Yankees’ best pitcher, going 11-5 with a 3.20 ERA in 21 starts. He’s been sharp over his last four starts, posting a 2.35 ERA and .212 opponents’ average in 23 innings.
Warren made his Major League debut on July 30 during a 7-6 victory over the Phillies. He allowed four runs in 5 1/3 innings with a no-decision and left a good impression on Yankees manager Aaron Boone.
“He was a little wound-up early, but pitching against that lineup in Philly felt like a big game,” Boone said. “He walks in with a lot of confidence, stuff to back it up. Even after getting punched in the mouth [after allowing a three-run homer to Austin Hays], man, he clamped down and got even better and finished the night strong and set himself up for a win. He has been throwing the ball well for a month or two.”
The second game of Wednesday’s doubleheader will start no earlier than 7:05 p.m. If the first game ends later than 6:35 p.m., Game 2 would start approximately 30 minutes after the end of Game 1. Tickets for Tuesday’s game will not be valid for the Wednesday, Aug. 7, single-admission doubleheader. On Wednesday, all Yankee Stadium gates will open to fans with valid tickets at 3:00 p.m., at which time distribution will begin for the Aug. 7 scheduled promotional item (Yankees Bucket Hat presented by Benjamin Moore to the 1st 18,000 Guests in attendance).
Fans with paid tickets for Tuesday’s game may exchange them for tickets to a similar regular season game at Yankee Stadium (subject to availability) as described in the Yankees’ rain check policy, which may be found at www.yankees.com/raincheck. Game 1 of Wednesday’s doubleheader will be broadcast by the YES Network and Game 2 will be broadcast by Amazon Prime Video. Complimentary (COMP) tickets and tickets obtained via the Commissioner’s Initiative for Kids for tonight’s game (Tuesday, August 6) are not valid for any future games. COMP tickets or equivalent tickets bear no cash value and do not have any additional benefits that may be offered to ticket(s) with a dollar value.
