A gunman who barricaded himself in a building near Ohio State University and opened fire on cops is dead after an hours-long standoff, according to reports. A gunman who barricaded himself in a building near Ohio State University and opened fire on cops is dead after an hours-long standoff, according to reports.

The man is suspected of breaking into a building at the school’s south campus in Columbus, Ohio, Sunday morning around 8 a.m. and firing a gun, prompting a call to police.

When authorities arrived they witnessed the suspect reload a gun, and then barricade himself inside the building,  according to WCMH.

It remains unclear how the gunman died. WSYX ABC 6

At least two exchanges of gunfire between the suspect and police occurred before 9 a.m., but neither were injured.

The suspect was finally pronounced dead at 1:15 p.m., though it remains unclear how he died.
