BYRON CENTER, Mich. – Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) shot back Wednesday at Republicans criticizing Donald Trump for lobbing personal attacks against the Harris campaign, telling reporters that Trump is “unfiltered” – and that’s why voters like him.
“President Trump, the reason people love him is because he’s his own man,” the GOP vice presidential candidate said. “He’s unfiltered, and he lets the American people see who he is.”
The remarks came as some Republicans have voiced concerns behind closed doors about Trump focusing too much on Vice President Kamala Harris herself instead of criticizing her policies and highlighting his own stances on the issues.
On Wednesday, GOP primary challenger Nikki Haley made waves Wednesday by advising the Trump campaign in a Tuesday interview to “quit whining” about Harris not having done an interview yet and attack her on the issues.
“Here’s the answer to the people who say that Donald Trump should do something different,” Vance told reporters at his Michigan campaign stop. “They had an opportunity to make Donald Trump do something different by challenging him over three separate primaries, every single one of which he won.”
He also leaned into personal attacks on Harris, saying “everything about her campaign is fake” including her laugh and her dancing.
Still, he insisted that he and Trump’s campaign is also attacking Harris on policy matters.
“If you listen to what Donald J. Trump says, if you look at what I say, we are prosecuting the case against Kamala Harris on policy,” Vance said. “We’re reminding people that Donald Trump delivered peace and prosperity, and Kamala Harris has delivered war all over the world and unaffordable groceries and housing here at home.”
In a following speech, the GOP VP nominee criticized some of Harris’ policies, tying her to President Biden’s tenure and highlighting their joint failure with the economy and at the southern border.
“Kamala Harris raised the price of American energy and Michigan suffered,” Vance said. “Good American jobs suffered.”
