Former President Donald Trump is leading Vice President Kamala Harris by one point nationally in the 2024 White House race, according to a new poll.
The Fox News survey, released Wednesday, shows the ex-commander-in-chief leading the vice president 50% to 49% in a head-to-head race.
The results of the survey are the same as Fox News’ July poll, which also showed Trump, 78, leading Harris, 59, by 1 point.
When third-party candidates were included, Trump and Harris were tied at 45% support apiece.
Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. received 6% support in the expanded poll, down from his 15% November 2023 high and his 10% backing in July.
More voters supporting Trump in the two-way race (9%) backed Kennedy when given the option than Harris supporters did (7%).
The poll found that slightly more Democrats are supporting Harris (94%) than Republicans are supporting Trump (93%), but Independents are backing the former president over the vice president by 8 points.
Trump is also retaining more support from his 2020 campaign backers (95%) than Harris is from President Biden’s 2020 supporters (93%).
A majority of voters find both candidates unlikeable, with Harris being viewed unfavorably by 51% and Trump by 53% – which represents his best rating in more than four years.
Harris’ running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, was viewed more favorably than GOP vice presidential nominee JD Vance, according to the poll.
Walz, who has faced criticism over allegations that he embellished his military record, is viewed positively by 41% and unfavorably by 39%, whereas Vance was underwater by 13 percentage points (38% favorable and 51% unfavorable).
Most voters named the economy as their top issue heading into November (38%), followed by immigration and abortion at 14% apiece.
Trump was more trusted than Harris to handle the economy as president by a 6-point margin, but the poll notes that the GOP nominee held double-digit leads over Biden on the economy before he dropped out of the race last month.
Despite Trump’s slim lead nationally, in the crucial swing states that will determine the outcome of the election, Harris appears to have the advantage.
A Cook Political Report survey released earlier on Wednesday showed the vice president topping or tied with Trump in all but one battleground state.
On average, Harris held a 48%-47% lead over Trump in the top seven battleground states — ahead in all but Georgia, where they tied, and Nevada, where the former president eked out an edge.
