A 17-year-old home invader has died after a 90-minute stand-off with California police.

Brandon Salgado, 17, of San Bernardino, was shot dead by Long Beach Police after pointing a fake gun at his head and threatening to kill himself on April 26.

Salgado was in the middle of robbing a family after using a crowbar to break into their house, a grandmother who lives there told 911, according to police.

Prior to police arriving at the scene on Cerritos Avenue, Salgado was in the living room with two teenagers and an adult male, where he demanded ‘items,’ according to Long Beach Police

‘The man broke into the house and is now in the other room,’ the scared grandmother told 911 in Spanish around 8:30pm. ‘He’s with my husband in the other room.’

Once officers arrived, Salgado fled to the back patio area, where he hid for almost an hour, demanded water, and threatened to kill himself.

The family was evacuated from the home after officers discovered the boy’s location and none of them were injured.

During the stand-off, officers attempted to verbally de-escalate the situation by telling him they weren’t going to ‘hurt’ him and pleaded with him to put down the gun, which they would later find out was fake.

‘He’s got a gun pointed at his head right now,’ one officer said.

‘Hey, relax!’ another officer yelled toward the suspect. ‘Come on, man. We’re not going to hurt you, we need to put that down.’

The suspect at one point requested water and officers threw him a bottle over the fence.

Once the suspect raised the gun to his head, an officer fired once, striking Salgado in the upper body.

Officers who were inside the home then went to the back patio and rendered medical aid to the teenager until the Long Beach Fire Department arrived on the scene and took over.

Salgado was transferred to the hospital, where he was declared dead.

Salgado also had an accomplice that evening that fled the scene before officers arrived, police said. The accomplice has been identified as Iskay Mota, 18, of Modesto (pictured: police inside the home)

No officers were injured during the stand-off, according to police.

Long Beach Police recovered a replica gun on the scene.
