A 70-year-old driver has been charged charged with killing a baby after crashing into her pram outside a hospital.

Bridget Carole Curtis is accused of causing the death of Mabli Cariad Hall by dangerous driving after the eight-month-old  was hit by a white BMW outside Withybush Hospital in Pembrokeshire last June

‘Smiley and happy’ Mabli was being put into her pushchair by her father, Rob Hall, on June 21, 2023, when she suffered severe head injuries due to the accident.

She was airlifted to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff and later transferred to Bristol Royal Hospital for Children for specialist treatment after the horror crash but died days later in the early hours of June 25.

An inquest opening in July last year heard that Mabli had died of severe traumatic brain injuries. The driver and another pedestrian were also hurt in the ‘tragic accident’ close to the entrance of the hospital in Haverfordwest, Wales.

In a statement, Mabli’s parents, Gwen and Rob Hall, of Neath, south Wales, said the past year had been the ‘most horrendous time of our lives.’

Describing Mabli as a ‘precious angel,’ they said: ‘Our family life has been changed forever and we are still trying to come to terms with what has happened.

‘Every day is a day of pain for us, even now, but we still have to give the love and support our other children need as they are still trying to come to terms with losing their baby sister.’

Dyfed-Powys Police said: ‘A woman has been charged following the death of a baby in a collision outside Withybush General Hospital last year.

‘Bridget Carole Curtis, aged 70, of Begelly, has been charged with causing the death of eight-month-old Mabli Cariad Hall (pictured) by driving dangerously on June 21, 2023.’

Ms Curtis will appear at Llanelli Magistrates’ Courton August 22.

Previously the couple, who have five other children, said they would ‘cherish’ their memories of their daughter.

‘We are absolutely heartbroken by the death of our beautiful baby girl Mabli,’ they said.

‘She was adored by us and her five siblings and brought us so much joy in her short life.

‘We will always remember Mabli’s beautiful little smile and cherish the time we had with her.’

The Halls thanked Dyfed-Powys Police, family and friends for their support and said the help they had received from 2Wish, a child bereavement charity, had been invaluable.

A fundraising page set up by friends at the time raised over £35,000 for the family.

The month after the incident, Mabli’s funeral was held at Noddfa Newydd Baptist Church in Tonna, where a hand-drawn butterfly and other items in tribute to Mabli could be seen attached outside.

Friends said the eight-month-old, who was the youngest of six siblings, was the 'most beautiful, smiley and happy baby girl'

Others in attendance wore an item of purple and lilac-coloured clothing, including ties, dresses, blazers and scarves in tribute to Mabli’s favourite colour.

The church hall was filled to capacity whilst even more people gathered outside as the service was played over a speaker system.

Previously, Mabli’s grandfather, Paul Sambrook, told the BBC his granddaughter ‘would have been a character.’

‘She was full of fun, she had a lovely laugh, she had that light in her eyes,’ Mr Sambrook said.

‘She would’ve been a character, without a doubt. That’s the awful tragedy. The loss of a life is one thing, the loss of the lifetime is the thing that hurts more.’
