During San Diego Comic-Con, Prime Video made a big surprise announcement: A new prequel series for The Boys is in the works. Vought Rising, as it’s called, stars Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash reprising their characters from The Boys in a period piece set during the 1950s.

This is just the latest spin-off, as it follows the animated series The Boys Presents: Diabolical and Gen V. Plans are also in place for The Boys: Mexico, but it still has some hurdles to clear to get made. Gen V Season 2 is in the works now and is coming up next before The Boys Season 5–its final season–comes sometime later.

Vought Rising is described as a “twisted murder mystery” that digs into the origins of Vought, the evil megacorporation, in a story set in the 1950s. The story will focus on Ackles’ character, Soldier Boy, and the character Stormfront, who was going by the name Clara Vought back in the ’50s.

The Boys creator Eric Kripke is an executive producer on Vought Rising, and he said, “We cannot wait to blow your minds and trouble your souls with this salacious, grisly saga drenched in blood and Compound V.”

Ackles and Cash are producers on Vought Rising, which, like The Boys, is produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios for Prime Video.

The Boys Season 4 reached 55 million viewers, up 20% over Season 3. Hopes are high for the fifth and final season, as viewers await the highly anticipated showdown between Homelander (Antony Starr) and Butcher (Karl Urban).
