A delicatessen has revealed the perfect way to chop up cheese – and claimed people have been doing it wrong for years.

Charcuterie boards are often the perfect way to enjoy your favourite fromage  – whether its with a reliable cheddar, soft brief, a pungent blue or a gooey camembert.

But what is the perfect portion of cheese, what shape do you cut it and how much should you really fit on a cracker?

Thankfully, experts from US delicatessen, Boar’s Head, have revealed how cheese-lovers should be chopping up their favourite blocks.

Experts from one of the United States' most popular delicatessens, Boar's Head, have revealed that many people have been cutting cheese wrong when preparing it for a charcuterie board

Posting to their TikTok account, which has over 47,000 followers, the deli’s experts demonstrated how to cut various types of cheeses in a more suitable way if you are sharing a board with others.

First up, the experts addressed how best to cut cheddar, saying that you should do so in cubes.

While it may not be the most exotic in terms of flavour profile, this technique could also be applied to Red Leicester, because it has a similar shape and consistency to cheddar.

Moving on to a more continental choice for their next cheese, the deli experts cut up a small wheel of brie – which they advised should be enjoyed as a wedged by being sliced into eighths in the same fashion as a pizza.

They employed a slightly more unconventional choice for Parmigiano Reggiano – or parmesan – as they crumbled it into small pieces with a knife.

As a hard cheese with a particularly salty flavour, parmesan would be best to eat in smaller quantities, negating the requirement to cut large chunks of it.

Cutting their final cheese of the video, the experts turned their attention to the popular Spanish cheese manchego, which is notorious for its black rind.

The cheese connoisseurs demonstrated that manchego should be cut into thin triangles, allowing you to garnish it with your chutney or fruit of choice.

Reacting to the video, viewers were impressed by the technique on show, while watching the clip had left them hankering for a cheese board, as they said:

‘I’m going to be honest – as a lactose intolerant human who loves cheese – the correct way is to bite it and prey to the gods it’s worth it.. usually it is’.

‘I genuinely appreciate this post. I love making different cheese boards [but usually] just cut and hope for the best’.

‘I thoroughly enjoyed this’.

‘I want to eat all of this’.
