An AirBNB host has revealed a new bizarre rule she’s been forced to implement after a group of guests ran up thousands of dollars in electricity bills during their stay.

TikToker Ashley (@built.with.class) shared a story about a guest who stayed for three weeks and left her house in ‘five star’ condition – but the situation took a dramatic turn when the electric bill arrived.

‘The guest not only set up an electric vehicle station, which usually is expensive, it’s minimal. That guest also mined crypto,’ she said.

The combined energy consumption resulted in a $1,500 bill.

After looking back at external security camera footage, Ashley said the guests ‘were bringing out 10 different computers’ upon arrival.

‘It was cheaper for them to rent a house to pay for that electricity.’

Due to this experience, the host had to implement a strict new rule prohibiting cryptocurrency mining and electric vehicle charging at their property – a rule she didn’t think she had to spell out for AirBNB users.

To add insult to injury, the host had to fight Airbnb to recoup the extra charges.

After providing documentation to the company, the crypto miners had no choice but to come clean. But paying off the costly bill was the least of the guest’s concerns.

‘He was overly honest and he made over $100,000 in those three weeks so a $1,500 electric bill was nothing,’ Ashley said in the comments.

Users in the comments who claim they also host for AirBNB said they also had to impose the same rule when advertising their residence on the app.

One user commented: ‘I also have in my rules no crypto mining. It’s ridiculous we have to do this.’

Another said: ‘A guy told me that he does this with airbnbs and was astonished he gets away with it.’

Others shared the stories behind the weird rules they’ve had to implement.

‘My neighbor runs an Airbnb & they once had a man bring his work truck with a MASSIVE water tank in the bed. He filled it up with the outdoor hose (we’re on metered water). Huge bill! New rule,’ said a user.

‘I saw an air bnb where they had 2 washers n dryers, a couple moved in to run a laundry service and ran up the water and electric bill,’ said another.
