The View‘s Ana Navarro has declared JD Vance a ‘DEI hire’ – due to him being a self-professed ‘hillbilly’.
The Republican talk show panelist made the remark on CNN NewsNight With Abby Phillip Monday after several GOP lawmakers made the same claim about last-minute Joe Biden replacement Kamala Harris.
Navarro, in turn, honed in on Vance’s hayseed heritage, which he himself leaned into in his 2016 tome ‘Hillbilly Elegy’ that harked back to Appalachian roots and his family in rural Kentucky.
In actuality, Vance, 39, spent most of his childhood in a suburb in the southwest of Ohio. The novel has since been parlayed into a Netflix film – one that Vance embraced as he used it to successfully secure his first ever term as a junior senator.
Navarro, 52, honed in on these facts during her merciless undressing of the potential vice president.

The View’s Ana Navarro declared JD Vance a ‘DEI hire’ on Monday – due to him being a self-professed ‘hillbilly’
The Republican talk show panelist made the remark on CNN NewsNight With Abby Phillip Monday, after several GOP lawmakers made the same claim about last-minute Joe Biden replacement Kamala Harris
‘It’s very funny when I hear J.D. Vance talk about Kamala Harris as a DEI hire,’ the self-professed centrist who’s long voiced her disdain toward Donald Trump began.
‘Because I think he got a book deal, I think he got a TV contract, I think he got a move deal because he’s a DEI hire,’ she said.
‘You want to talk about DEI? You came on and you were supposed to be the hillbilly translator which was something that was sorely lacking on national TV and in the movies,’ she continued
‘We’re going to talk about hiring somebody because what they represent and the color of their skin and where they come from? Let’s start with JD Vance.’
The critique did not end there, with Navarro sure to reference some of the other headlines surrounding the divisive candidate since he was named as Trump’s second less than two weeks ago.
‘I’m kind of marveling at the lack of vetting that seems to have gone on in the Trump campaign which had a ton of time to pick their vice president,’ Navarro said as Vance faces flak for decrying some Democratic leaders as ‘single cat ladies’ in 2021.
‘I’m just amazed at all of the things that came out.’
One of the scandals she appeared to obliquely reference was the surrounding the senator and claims he had sex with a couch, another assertion aired in his book.
The self-professed Republican who has been vocal about her hatred of Donald Trump honed in on Vance’s hayseed heritage, which he himself leaned into in his 2016 tome ‘Hillbilly Elegy’
In actuality, Vance – seen here Usha Chilukuri Vance – spent most of his childhood in a suburb in the southwest of Ohio, a fact he seemed to ignore as he leaned into his identity as an Appalachian descendent
A week earlier, Tennessee Republican Rep. Tim Burchett suggested Harris was selected as Biden’s running mate solely because she is black.
‘One hundred percent she is a DEI hire,’ the 59-year-old said, spurring lawmakers such as Rep. Harriet Hageman of Wyoming and Rep. Glenn Grothman of Wisconsin to air almost identical sentiments.
‘Her record is abysmal at best.’
Also calling Harris a ‘DEI hire’, Hageman referred to her as ‘intellectually, just really kind of the bottom of the barrel.
Grothman, in turn, told CBS News affiliate WDJT, in Milwaukee, that ‘Democrats feel they have to stick with her because of her ethnic background.’
Navarro on Monday was not having it, after already airing distaste over Vance’s resurfaced ‘cat lady comments’ the day before on The View.
‘They’ve given him, J.D. Vance, all these opportunities to clean up his childless cat lady comment, and he hasn’t been able to,’ Navarro said.
‘Like, he ended up apologizing to the cats instead of to the ladies!’ she added, referencing the senator’s haphazard apology.
A week ealirer, several Republicans suggested Democratic candidate and current VP Kamala Harris was selected as Biden’s running mate solely because she is black
She went on to call the show of remorse phony, saying the Ohio senator truly ‘means it.’
‘Because that’s his intention,’ she told co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behart, and more.
‘He has said more than once that he thinks people without children, that that’s bad and must be punished… He wants people with children to have more voting rights. He wants people with children to pay less taxes.’
‘But here’s what I want to tell him,’ Navarro continued. ‘There are women who have no children because they are free to choose so, and there are women like me who have no children because we couldn’t.
‘And how dare you try to tell me that I am lesser than? How dare you tell me that I have less rights and less voting rights than others?’
Vance voted against the Democrat-led Right to IVF Act last month, though was supportive of a GOP-sponsored bill, the IVF Protection Act, which would strip states of Medicaid funding if they barred IVF treatments.
During a Q&A with Kelly over the weekend, Vance explained that he was for IVF within reason, has many experts and conservative commentators like Ben Shapiro begin to air concerns about the GOP’s VP pick.
‘I think we have to protect the rights of Christian hospitals to operate the way that they want to operate,’ he said. ‘But of course, that’s totally consistent with promoting fertility treatments for parents who need it.’
The dress-down came a day after Navarro, a political strategist who calls herself a centrist, made fun of Vance’s running mate’s recent ear injury following the attempt on his life earlier this month. The joke was met with laugher and applause
Meanwhile, one the latest episode of his self-titled show, Shapiro joined the many jumping on the bandwagon of slamming the senator amid the outrage the resurfaced interview has incited.
‘I think he probably would have picked somebody like Glenn Youngkin from Virginia in an attempt to broaden out his base,’ he said referencing GOP candidate Trump.
‘Instead, he went with JD Vance, feeling, because he was right at the time, he had a very solid advantage in the race against Joe Biden.’
Harris, who has yet to officially be confirmed as the Democratic candidate, has yet to announce a running mate.
Navarro, meanwhile, faced some backlash last week for making fun of Vance’s running mate’s recent ear injury following an assassination attempt last weekend.
‘What we saw yesterday was a replay of Trump’s 90-minute constant rallies,’ she said.
‘It’s too bad the bandage was just over his ear. It should have been over his mouth.’
