An armed woman from Texas has been arrested after threatening former President Donald Trump in Washington, DC, authorities said.
Christina Montoya, 41, was busted last Friday in northeastern DC after local cops were tipped off about her by the Secret Service and opened an investigation, according to a report from the Metropolitan Police Department of DC.
“Through the detectives’ investigation, 41-year-old Christina Montoya of San Antonio, Texas, was arrested and charged with carrying a pistol without a license, possession of an unregistered firearm, and threats against a former president,” MPD explained in a public statement.
While authorities did not provide specifics about the threats allegedly made against Trump, they claim it began on July 20.
That’s just over a week after the assassination attempt on Trump’s life by Thomas Mathew Crooks during his July 13 rally in Butler, Pa.
During an investigation into Montoya, officers located her Honda Accord and found her in a residential area of the nation’s capital with a Smith & Wesson M&P Shield pistol, gun lock as well as a magazine, per a police report.
Police did not provide much more specifics about the arrrest.
The Secret Service has been under intense scrutiny over the failures that preceded the attempt on Trump’s life.
Ultimately, Trump’s right ear was grazed by a bullet, one person was killed and two others were wounded in the attack. Crooks was later taken out by Secret Service snipers.
Crooks had managed to crawl across the roof of a shed that was about 130 yards away from Trump and whistleblowers have since come forward with accusations of the Secret Service missing opportunities to boost security.
Last month, the protective agency’s former director Kimberly Cheatle tendered her resignation amid a wave of bipartisan backlash.
There are numerous ongoing investigations into the debacle, including from a bipartisan task force in Congress, the Department of Homeland Security’s inspector general, and more.
Multiple congressional committees have also been engaged in additional investigative work about the ordeal.
