Lily Bloom’s wedding look in It Ends with Us is practically a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment, but that didn’t stop Blake Lively and costume designer Eric Daman from making sure that every last piece of it was absolutely perfect.

Lily and Ryle ( Justin Baldoni) get married in a bit of a spur-of-the-moment decision, and audiences don’t actually see a wedding. What they do see is a flash of the couple in their wedding looks — but only for a glimpse, and then it cuts to a shoulders-up shot of their wedding photo, and that’s what we’re left with.

Daman knew he had only moments in the film to make an impact — and he did.

“We definitely wanted to lean into one-of-a-kind vintage vibes,” he tells PEOPLE of where the inspiration began for Lily’s wedding look. “I remember texting Blake, asking, ‘Wedding thoughts?’ And she replied, ‘Priscilla.'”

Once he had a plan in place, the rest fell into place for Daman. And while he went with a vintage callback to Priscilla Presley — looking at her wedding to Elvis Presley in 1967, as well as other moments from the decade — he found modern pieces from today to fit his needs.

“We went hard pulling ’60s Priscilla Presley minis with matching coats and embellishments in creams and sherbet pastel hues,” he says. “We landed on this gorge super chic number from Happy Isles, paired with sheer pearl beaded gloves from Anthropologie, Blake’s personal Louboutins and her jewels. We spliced together two vintage veils from 1stDibs and voilà Lily Bloom bridal is born!”

Aside from the brief wedding scene, Lively also wore a few of her own pieces elsewhere in the film. Daman gushed over the star’s taste, especially when it came to her jewelry. He told PEOPLE it was a real treat getting to poke through her shoe closet and have access to her treasure trove of jewels.

“Blake brought in her own jewelry, her Lorraine Schwartz jewelry,” he said. “I didn’t have budget for that. She has incredible taste and incredible things.”

Lively would bring her jewelry box to set, Daman said, and they would look through it together to decide which pieces may work for each scene and each outfit that he’d chosen for Lily to wear in the movie.

“A lot of the jewelry was from her personal collection,” he said, noting that pieces are scattered throughout the film and complement the other jewelry that he’d selected outside of her own. “She’d bring in her beautiful little jewelry box in a tote bag and be like, ‘What do you think about this?’ I’m like, I actually can’t speak. You open [the jewelry box] and it’s like the Holy Grail. How many pieces of Lorraine Schwartz diamonds are in there? And why are you just carrying that around in a tote bag? It’s so great.”

Lively previously revealed to PEOPLE that she’d rifled through her husband  Ryan Reynolds‘ closet for  a few pieces to bring to set, as well as her bestie  Gigi Hadid‘s.

Daman expended on the sharing-is-caring philosophy that Lively’s friends and family took on for the film, saying, “Gigi sent us a ton of amazing stuff from her Guest in Residence collection that we featured in several looks. And we see Ryan’s plaid vest in a Lily Bloom’s store scene. It all adds such a personal touch to the character. I love that Blake is so open and willing to share her (and her husband’s and her BFF’s!) finery with us. I’m truly grateful.”
