A Scots beautician was left fighting for her life after a horrific scooter accident in Bali.

Charlene Morrissey fell from the vehicle after being struck by a car and suffered serious arm injuries when she was then hit by a lorry.

The 33-year-old, of Airdrie, Lanarkshire, who is in a critical condition, had multiple blood transfusions as doctors battled to save her life.

However, the hospital stopped treatment after learning that Ms Morrissey’s travel insurance company would not pay.

Her family have since forked out £50,000 for medical bills. They were able to raise the cash within 48 hours of the accident earlier this month.

A skin graft failed, and Ms Morrissey now faces further surgery.

Doctors plan to save her arm through a pedicle flap, where the hand is stitched to the abdomen to allow skin to grow.

The beautician’s friends have launched a GoFundMe page to help pay for the rising medical bills and to support her family, who have flown to the Indonesian island.

Around £100,000 has been raised through thousands of donations. A family member thanked those who had donated, saying the support had been ‘overwhelming’.

Thanking people for their donations, a family member said: ‘The support from everyone so far, every single message, share, comment and like is so overwhelming for our family and we would not have the positivity we have if it wasn’t for you all.

‘The positivity we feel is the first we have felt in the last few days and it means the world. We honestly cannot thank you all enough.’
