The unexpected death of a father-of-two has left his pregnant widow raising their children alone.

Nithin Paul, 37, died suddenly in Cairns in far north Queensland on Sunday.

His wife, Dayana and their young children have been left without a husband and father.

Mr Paul was born in Kerala in  India‘s south before moving to New Zealand and then Cairns with his family in 2021. 

He was the hospitality co-ordinator at the Malayali Association Cairns (MAC) and a prominent member of the local Malayali community.  

The MAC executive committee extended its sympathies towards his family and vowed to support them in any way it could. 

The group has already set up a GoFundMe to help support Mr Paul’s family going forward.

‘In this difficult time, we want to support Nithin’s family in any way we can,’ the page states.

‘The funds raised will help alleviate the burden of immediate and ongoing expenses on the family.

‘During the last few years Nithin has tirelessly worked to support our community both at a personal level and as a member of MAC. 

‘He was a dedicated and selfless individual who tirelessly volunteered his time to the betterment of our community through his involvement with MAC.’

MAC President Bindhu Louis said Mr Paul loved to provide for his community.

He was a happy man all the time, he was a catering person and made delicious food for us,’ Ms Louis told the Cairns Post. 

‘He was an awesome guy who spent most of his Cairns life for the community.’

News of Mr Paul’s death was also shared online by the North Shore Malayali Association, which has extended their ‘heartfelt condolences’ to the family.

‘With deep sorrow, we regret to inform you of the passing of Nithin Paul who had been an active community member with us before he left for Aussie few years ago,’ a statement read. 

Mr Paul had previously been a chef on the Royal Caribbean chef before leaving to start his own catering business, Dum Dum Biryani.

His parents and brother are now trying to arrange travel to Australia to be with Mrs Paul and their grandchildren 

A date for the funeral is yet to be set.
