Directed by Eli Roth, Borderlands is a live-action adaptation of the video game franchise of the same name. This won’t be a direct adaptation, as Roth’s film remixes characters and elements from the game to tell a unique story, with Tiny Tina being central to the story.

The overall gist of Vault Hunters, ancient alien vaults, and power-hungry corporations battling for control of the galaxy remains the same, but the film looks like it’s aiming to be a sci-fi action-comedy similar to Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. “I was very conscious of not remaking Guardians. [Audiences will] see the movie and recognize its unique approach,” Roth said in response to those Guardians comparison.

Borderlands stars Cate Blanchett as the outlaw Lilith, Kevin Hart as the mercenary Roland, Jamie Lee Curtis as socially inept scientist Patricia Tannis, Ariana Greenblatt as demolitions expert Tiny Tina, with Florian Munteanu as her gigantic bodyguard Krieg. The rest of cast is rounded out by Edgar Ramirez, Gina Gershon, and Jack Black, who voices the bullet-pooping robot Claptrap.
