The inventory of Destiny 2‘s weirdest shopkeep, the squid-faced weekend vendor Xur, is about to change once again. Starting with an August 20 update, Xur’s Exotics-focused inventory will also include the new Exotic class item available in The Final Shape expansion, which means it’ll now be a little easier to get new rolls of the piece of gear to fill out your loadouts.

The first time Xur shows up after the update, on August 26, he’s guaranteed to stock the Exotic class item, Bungie said.

Bungie announced the change in its latest This Week in Destiny blog post, which provides some more details. You’ll be able to purchase an Exotic class item from Xur for 41 Strange Coins, which is a fairly significant haul of the currency, and it’ll feature a random combination of perks. However, Xur isn’t guaranteed to carry the class item each week; his inventory is randomized, so you’ll have to pop in each weekend to see what he’s carrying (or, of course, you can read our weekly Xur guide).

The adjustment is part of Update 8.0.5.2 and will tweak Xur’s inventory to move the “Wildcard” item he offers–which has featured things like Exotic Ciphers and Ritual engrams–to a different part of the menu. The slot in his inventory that was previously occupied by the Wildcard item will now feature either an Exotic class item or an Exotic Cipher. So it sounds like, while Xur isn’t guaranteed to offer the Exotic class item each week, the chances that he’ll have one are still pretty good. That doesn’t guarantee the class item itself will be good, though, as each one features two random Exotic perks. But Xur carrying the item means players will have another chance to get what they’re looking for.

The requirements to unlock the Exotic class item don’t change just because Xur is offering it, though. You still need to complete the Dual Destiny mission in the Pale Heart of the Traveler, the new location in The Final Shape, to gain access to it. Once you’ve done that, you’ll receive your first Exotic class item with a random combination of two Exotic perks, and it’ll become possible to get new ones with different combinations from any chest in the Pale Heart, among other sources.

The Exotic class item is pretty much the best piece of gear in The Final Shape, and players have been clamoring for new ways to get more of them as they search for great perk combinations for different builds. Since those perks are random, it’s an item players have had to farm, and that has led to some frustration in the community with low drop rates.

Bungie recently tried to increase the drop rate on the class item in Update 8.0.5 by adding a sort of bad luck protection to the Pale Heart’s major activity, Overthrow. The idea was that each time you complete an Overthrow event, your chances of earning an Exotic class item from the chest at the end increase (most of the other chests in the Pale Heart remain unaffected, though). However, it seems the update didn’t work correctly, since players have reported the drop rate on the Exotic class item has plummeted, rather than increased, since Update 8.0.5. The change to Xur should at least alleviate that a tiny bit, occasionally, on certain days of the week.
