A judge appointed by former President Donald Trump is allowing a Texas woman to sue local authorities after she was charged with murder for an abortion.
The woman, Lizelle Gonzalez, was arrested and spent two nights in jail for a self-induced abortion in 2022.
U.S. District Judge Drew Tipton on Wednesday allowed her to proceed with a lawsuit against prosecutors and the local sheriff in which she is seeking $1 million in damages, the Associated Press reported.
In a courtroom in McAllen, Texas, the judge denied a motion by the sheriff and prosecutors asking to have the lawsuit dismissed.
