A young English bulldog has tragically died days after the pup was found sealed in a plastic container next to a dumpster in Las Vegas‘s 100-degree temperatures.

Reba was discovered whimpering and crying for help on July 25 by a passerby who quickly rescued the animal and began trying to cool her down as help arrived.

She was taken to the Veterinary Emergency Group as staff members worked to revive her from the brink of death.

At the time, a veterinarian who treated Reba noted that she was suffering from heat stroke and severe dehydration – indicating that she may have suffered abuse.

Dr Jessica Dowling, medical director of the group, told Fox 5: ‘She wasn’t able to breathe because her lungs had filled with fluid from trying to breathe so hard.

‘Dogs just don’t have a good way of losing that heat like we do. So they’re trying desperately to breathe. And it’s just a vicious cycle that just keeps getting worse.’

Two days later, Reba died due to a cardiac arrest caused by a blood-clotting condition she developed as a result of the severe heat stroke and shock, Vegas Pet Rescue announced.

Carlos Herrera, a member of Paws Patrol, a non-profit group that helps animals in need, also revealed that Reba suffered a seizure while she was being taken to the hospital.

‘To know that somebody had the audacity to put the dog in there, tape that shut, and leave the dog there and just walk away, you know when it’s 110 degrees outside, it just doesn’t make sense,’ Herrera said

The Las Vegas Police Department has launched an investigation and is currently on the lookout for the person who threw Reba in the bin.

The Vegas Pet Rescue Project has also announced a $25,000 reward fund for anyone who can provide information about the incident.

Megan Tomlinson, a volunteer rescue coordinator for the Vegas Pet Rescue Project,  requested: ‘Please call in if you saw even anything. Even the smallest detail might help us find who did this.’
