A 4.8-magnitude earthquake has rocked New Zealand‘s capital Wellington late at night.
The tremor was felt about 15km south west of the city at 11.38pm (9.38pm AEST).
It struck approximately 13km underground, jolting Kiwis awake.
‘Really caught my attention there. The initial rumble was intense and then a big jolt. Got the old heart going a bit,’ one person from Wellington said.
‘Damn that shook us out of bed,’ another wrote on X.
‘That rumble had me frozen. I thought it was going to be huge,’ said another.
