The Florida Republican Party has one million more registered voters than Democrats in the state, its chairman has announced.

“Our success goes beyond just numbers,” said Evan Power, Florida’s GOP chairman, in a statement released on Sunday. “It’s about a vision to make Florida the beacon of freedom for the rest of the county.”

Once considered a swing state, Florida has become increasingly Republican in recent years, voting for Donald Trump in 2016 and 2020, and electing governor Ron DeSantis in a 2022 landslide.

According to the Florida Department of State’s Division of Elections, registered Democrats outnumbered Republicans as recently as 2020.

Donald Trump has lived in Florida since 2019.
