Even Guy Fieri‘s signature hairstyle was taking a vacation during his family’s lake trip.

On Thursday, July 25, the television host’s son Ryder shared some snapshots of their vacation on Instagram, which featured a rare shot of Guy, 56, without his spiked hair.

In the picture, the Emmy winner wore a life jacket and swim shorts while holding up a bottle of his tequila brand, Santo. Guy posed on the wakeboard, with his blond hair looking more deflated than usual.

“One for the books🏄” Ryder wrote of their trip to Ruth Lake, Calif.

Other pictures from their lake trip also featured more wakeboarding, lounging on a boat, hiking, cooking, and lakeside strolls. At one point, goat yoga was even on the agenda. Guy’s older son Hunter and his fiancée Tara Bernstein joined in on the trip and documented the family affair on Instagram.

In a 2019 PEOPLE cover story, the Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives host spoke about his signature hair, which came about as an accident after a visit with his hairdresser and good friend, Christina Jones.

“I was just kind of having one of those moods one day, and said, ‘Just do whatever you want.’ She goes, ‘Whatever I want?’ ‘Whatever you want,’” Guy recalled. “I get done and I’m like, ‘You gonna wash that out, that shampoo?’ She goes, ‘No, that’s your hair color.’ I’m like, ‘My what!’ It was Friday night at like six o’clock. I had to be at the restaurant. I’m like, ‘No.’ She’s like, ‘Yeah.’ So I put a ball cap on and walked to the restaurant.”

His wife Lori mentioned that she “always” asks him to change it to no avail.

“When I first met him, he had no goatee. He had dark hair. He wore a suit to work every day,” Lori told PEOPLE at the time. “Now I look at him and I’m like, ‘Where’s that man I married with the whole clean look?’”

She added that the color used to be seasonal, but the spiked style is here to stay.

“I always say, ‘When are you going to change your haircut?’ But it stuck and it’s him,” she added. “I tease him every once in a while. And I do want a little change sometimes.”

“But that’s like me changing my hair to black. I mean, I’m not going to do that for him, so.”
