Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin are one of Hollywood’s most famous power couples—so when rumors emerged this week that they have called it quits on their romance after seven years together, fans were devastated.
During the years that “Madame Web” star Johnson, 34, and Coldplay frontman Martin, 47, have spent together, their lives have become increasingly interwoven, with the pair even moving into a stunning Malibu, CA, mansion together in 2020.
Martin bought the Cape Cod-style abode for $12.5 million, before selling it for an impressive $14.4 million after just a year of ownership.
The interiors of the home, built in 2008, were completely reimagined by Saffron Case Homes, the listing details note. The 5,338 square feet of living space includes five bedrooms and seven bathrooms. The property includes a two-story, two-bedroom guesthouse.
An incredibly photogenic pad, it features vaulted ceilings, custom finishes, a game room, home theater, and high-end kitchen.
Out back, the acre lot offers a flat lawn, fireplaces, a pool with spa, a barbecue area, and a wet bar.
The locale in the tony area of Point Dume is just a short stroll to the beach and shops.
The famously private duo—who are understood to be engaged—clearly have a shared love for beautiful homes, with each amassing an impressive portfolio of properties.
And while they may have “consciously uncoupled” from their Malibu residence, it seems that their joint real estate empire can continue to flourish, after a spokesperson for the couple vehemently denied rumors that they have split, insisting to People that they are “happily together.”
So what other real estate gems are hidden among their collective holdings?
All about Malibu
The Coldplay frontman is attached to the coast, where he owns a number of additional properties in Malibu.
In 2014, he and then-wife Gwyneth Paltrow bought a $14.4 million midcentury modern retreat. Martin owned it outright after their divorce in 2016.
Designed by renowned architect John Lautner and built in 1972, the Garwood Residence features heated floors, a chef’s kitchen, and an indoor-outdoor floor plan.
The gated estate features ocean views, landscaped gardens, a pool, tennis court, and gym and yoga studio. Set on Little Dume Beach, the property even offers yacht anchorage.
Despite its architectural provenance, Martin razed the building to build a larger, more modern abode for Johnson and him, according to reports.
The two had plans to construct a 5,389-square-foot residence in its place. Along with a larger house, the new place will have a detached garage, swimming pool, spa, tennis court and amphitheater, guesthouse, and open-air carport.
Malibu playhouse
In 2018, Martin added a $4.5 million theater in Malibu to his property portfolio.
Formerly the site of Shepherd-by-the-Sea Church, it was recently the longtime location of the iconic Malibu Playhouse.
Adjacent to Point Dume, the 6.5-acre parcel houses the theater, a converted residence-turned-office space, and a hexagonal structure. The listing notes potential uses, including a wellness retreat, horse facility, or recording studio. There’s also room to build another home, guesthouse, and pool.
Martin appears to have had a change of heart about the landmark property, throwing it on to the market in 2020 for $5.5 million. But months later, it was taken off the market, and he still owns the property.
Renovated ranch house
Martin snapped up another Point Dume property in 2019: a petite ranch house for $5,475,000.
Despite its small, 1,800-square-foot layout, the renovated ranch house grabbed Martin’s attention for its “peaceful living room and its floor-to-ceiling glass slider opening to a pretty garden with a koi pond,” according to the Standard.
The open floor plan featured updates such as a designer kitchen, white oak floors, and elements including natural lights, high ceilings, and heated floors, inside and out.
Listing details from five years ago noted the grounds have room for a “pool, guest house, and other additions.” The property includes a beach key to Little Dume Beach, which is within walking distance.
Just down the road, Martin may have picked up an additional Malibu home in 2021 for $14 million.
Built in 1956, but since beautifully updated, the five-bedroom home includes a sweet kitchen, open living and dining space, and glass doors that open to gorgeous grounds encompassing almost 1.5 acres.
Lovely in L.A.
As for Johnson, the “Madame Web” star also snagged herself a lovely place to call home. In 2016, the actress picked up a $3.5 million midcentury modern in the Hollywood Hills area.
Offering three bedrooms and three bathrooms across 3,210 square feet, the stylish space was featured in Architectural Digest in 2020.
“It’s like a tree house. On a boat,” she told AD.
When home shopping, this was just the second home she toured, she continued. “I was immediately drawn to how it was clean but also cozy. I thought, I’ll never want to sell this place.”
The storied space also counts producer Ryan Murphy as one of its previous owners.
Redesigned interiors include floor-to-ceiling windows that open out to a lap pool. The chic space is stuffed with the star’s mementos from her life and family, who include mom Melanie Griffith, dad Don Johnson, and grandmother Tippi Hedren.
The design firm Pierce & Ward was on-site to fulfill Johnson’s “wish list,” and elements include concrete floors and green paint on the kitchen cabinets.
Even at that point, when she was spending time with Martin in Malibu, Johnson told AD, “With my job and the velocity at which my schedule can change, it’s important for me to have a place to go to and it be mine.
“’Psychologically, I’m moored somewhere,” she said. “This place is my anchor.”
