Veteran actor Jamie Lee Curtis has apologized for comments she made about Marvel, saying what she said was “stupid.” For anyone just catching up, Curtis was recently asked if she knew which “phase” the MCU was currently in, and she said, “bad.”

Curtis has now tried to distance herself from those comments, saying on Instagram that she’s going to stop criticizing other creators and will be more selective with her media appearances in the future.

“If I’m a leader, then a leader shouldn’t talk shit about other collaborative art form creators. My comments about Marvel were stupid and I will do better,” she said. “I’ve reached out to Kevin Feige and will no longer play in that mud-slinging sandbox of competition nor will I engage in the toilet paper promotion or game play that is designed for clicks not content.”

You can watch the original interview below, during which Curtis and other actors weighed in on the state of Marvel.

It’s obvious Curtis was being playful in her interview response, and she has a point. 2023 was a difficult year for the MCU, as Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and The Marvels did not do very well at the box office. Marvel co-president Louis D’Esposito said Marvel was facing a “rough time,” adding that Marvel “took a little hit” but was taking steps to come back strong.

Disney CEO Bob Iger addressed the shortcomings as well, saying Marvel simply didn’t make good enough movies to encourage people to go to the theater.

Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds responded to Curtis’ apology, saying, “Wait, is everyone expected to apologize for slamming Marvel post-Endgame?”

Before this, while promoting Everything Everywhere All At Once, Curtis said Marvel’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was missing “a dynamite dildo fight scene” and a “very erotic hot dog hand-mating dance.” She also mentioned how her movie, which she won an Oscar for, cost less than the craft service budget for any Marvel movie.

Curtis will be seen next in the video game movie Borderlands, which releases on August 9.
