Vice President Kamala Harris was receiving donations of $20,000 per minute at one point on Thursday, her presidential campaign team said, when it hosted a Zoom call for white women to “answer the call” and “show up for Kamala Harris.”

Afterward, Shannon Watts, founder of the gun-safety group Moms Demand Action and the call organizer, posted on X, formerly Twitter: “We’re raising $20,000 per minute — the system wasn’t built for this. If you can’t make your donation, keep trying. #AnswerTheCall2024.”

Several people commented on the post, saying they were struggling to donate with the link. “Good trouble,” @TheDoseTweets said.

Watts also said that Harris had more than 100,000 participants. The final amount that was raised is yet to be revealed, but the last figure Watts posted was more than $2 million.

Harris’ campaign is clearly targeting women voters, a group whose votes former President Donald Trump, the Republican nominee, has struggled to win in the past.

While Trump’s poll numbers show a lead against Harris, a new survey shows support among female voters is declining.

The latest poll conducted by the New York Times and Siena between July 22 and 24 showed Harris with a 14-point lead over Trump among women, with 55 percent of female voters supporting Harris to Trump’s 41 percent. The poll surveyed 1,142 registered voters and had a margin of error of 3.3 percent.

In 2016, Trump gained 39 percent of the female vote and in 2020 went up to 44 percent. He lost the women’s vote by 15 points to Hillary Clinton in 2016 and by 11 points in 2020 to Joe Biden.

Trump’s running mate, Ohio Senator JD Vance, is facing controversy for his comments about women, many of which he claims are being misconstrued.

Most recently, people have been angry about a resurfaced clip of Vance branding Democrats “childless cat ladies” in an appearance on Fox News Tucker Carlson Tonight in July 2021. At the time, he was arguing that the U.S. was being led by people who did not have a “direct stake” in the future of the country.

He has also faced heat for his stance on abortion, as he has advocated for a nationwide ban in the past. But he has since had to throw his weight behind Trump’s stance, which is to let the states decide.

Thursday and Friday saw several of the women in Vance’s life rally around him to push back against the backlash he is facing.

His spokeswoman, Taylor Van Kirk, said: “Once again, the left-wing media have twisted Senator Vance’s words and spun up a false narrative about his position on the issues. The Democrats are in complete disarray with the most unpopular vice president in history as their party’s nominee.

“The only childlessness we should be talking about is the childless parents who lost their kids to the murderous thugs and deadly fentanyl coming across Kamala’s southern border.”

Vance’s sister, Lindsey Lewis, said: “JD was raised by some of the strongest women I know and went on to marry an incredibly strong woman in Usha. JD is a testament to the women in his life, and the attacks from the media and Democrats that assume anything otherwise is vile.”

And his aunt, Lori Meibers, said: “Women have been forefront throughout JD’s life. As you know, he was raised without a father figure. My mother, Bonnie Vance—or Mamaw, as we know her—his sister, Lindsay, and myself all coalesced around him to raise him ourselves.

“My own daughters have chosen significant others that resemble the man JD is, and that brings me incredible joy to know that he has had such a lasting impact on them. It’s disgusting that the Democrats and media are attacking him in this way.”
