A new trailer for Sony’s R-rated Spider-Man spin-off movie Kraven: The Hunter has arrived showing more of Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the title character and revealing Rhino (Alessandro Nivola) for the first time.

Kraven: The Hunter is an origin story for the Marvel villain, telling the tale of how his relationship with this gangster father, Nikolai Kravinoff (Russell Crowe) leads him down a dark path on his journey to becoming the greatest and most feared hunter. Nivola plays Rhino, with Fred Hechinger portraying Chameleon and Ariana DeBose as Calypso.

J.C. Chandor (All Is Lost, Triple Frontier) directed the movie from a screenplay by Iron Man writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, as well as Richard Wenk.

Kraven: The Hunter releases in theaters on December 13. The movie was originally set to be released in October 2023, but the film was later delayed to August 30, 2024, before shifting again to release on December 13 this year. Deadline reported that the delays gave Chandor the time to “sharped the characters and tighten the plot.” There were also “strategic reshoots,” Deadline said.

“I’m extremely proud of the work we have all done together on Kraven, and when the movie finally gets its chance to be seen I think it’s gonna surprise the hell out of a lot of people,” Chandor said.

It’s also been reported by Chandor is working with Sony Pictures again to direct an untitled contemporary drama that he also wrote, and could be his next directorial project. As for Taylor-Johnson, he’s rumored to be the next James Bond actor.

Sony Pictures is no doubt hoping that Kraven: The Hunter performs better critically and commercially than its last Spider-Man spin-off movie, Madame Web. It released in February and was the year’s biggest major flop until Borderlands.
