Houston police have announced a major breakthrough as they continue to investigate after a newborn baby boy wound up in a dumpster outside a taco shop.
Authorities have been probing the incident since first-responders found the baby with his umbilical cord still attached on Sunday.
As part of that investigation, officers have scrubbed through surveillance footage from the scene to identify who placed the newborn into a dumpster filled with trash and to track down any potential witnesses.
They have since identified a suspect and ‘are continuing to work through the investigation,’ spokesperson Jodi Silva told ABC News.
No details about the suspect have been released, including his or her alleged connection to the crime, and Silva said the name of the suspect will not be released until charges are filed.
The moment a newborn baby was pulled from a dumpster outside a taco shop in Texas was captured in heart-stopping footage
Authorities say a passerby called 911 on Sunday after hearing the baby crying from the filled dumpster outside of an apartment complex in southwest Houston
Heart-stopping footage obtained by ABC13 then shows officials responding to the scene, and finding the baby boy inside a bag.
EMS were then seen wrapping the baby in a blanket by the dumpster. The child appeared to be fresh out of the womb, with his hair wet, his skin pruned and his umbilical cord still attached.
Thankfully, he survived the horrific ordeal.
He was examined at a hospital and was determined to be in good health.
The baby is now under the care of Child Protective Services.

Martee Boose with the Houston Fire Department said: ‘Those are tragic stories, and they are stories that don’t need to happen.
‘If a citizen has a newborn that is 60 days or younger, they are able to drop them off at a fire station or a hospital and those individuals will not ask them any information about themselves.
‘The most information they are permitted to ask them about is maybe the baby’s medical history to make sure the baby is getting the best medical care.’
