PHOENIX — Eugenio Suárez was a one-man wrecking crew for the D-backs on Tuesday night as the veteran third baseman smacked three home runs and drove in five runs as Arizona beat the Nationals, 17-0, at Chase Field.

Suarez hit a two-run homer in the first, a solo homer in the sixth and another solo shot in the seventh. He collected an RBI single, grounded out and fouled out in his other three at-bats on the night.

The big night for Suarez came at a good time for the D-backs, who learned earlier in the day that slugger Christian Walker was headed to the injured list with a strained left oblique.

It was the second three-homer game of Suarez’s career — with the other coming on Sept. 5, 2020 against the Pirates — and the first three-homer game for the D-backs since Josh Rojas did it on May 20, 2022.
