Mary Trump, niece and frequent critic of former President Donald Trump, warned on Wednesday that if Donald is talking about “entitlements” he means he will cut “Social Security.”

Ahead of Donald’s planned campaign speech about the economy, Mary posted on X, formerly Twitter that, “If he’s talking about ‘entitlements’, he’s talking about cutting Social Security. #TrumpWillCutSocialSecurity”

The former president and the Republican nominee for president, has spoken about his 2024 plans for social security, previously saying in March when asked about potential changes to entitlement programs like Medicare and Social Security, “There is a lot you can do in terms of entitlement, in terms of cutting and in terms of also the theft and the bad management of entitlements.”

The former president went on to say, “I know that they’re going to end up weakening Social Security because the country is weak.” Previously, Trump has also said, ” You don’t have to touch Social Security.” Social Security is a federal program that provides income to Americans who are disabled, cannot work or are retired.

Newsweek has reached out Trump’s campaign via email for comment on Wednesday afternoon.

On Trump’s official campaign website, Social Security is listed as platform point 14 saying Trump promises to, “Fight for and protect Social Security and Medicare with no cuts, including no changes to the retirement age.”

At the end of July, Trump also said that seniors should not pay taxes on Social Security payments. Economist and senior research fellow at the Mercatus Center at George Mason University, Veronique de Rugy said, “While reducing Social Security taxes may encourage some seniors to go back to work, it will in turn cause more dramatic problems if not paired with reform to Social Security benefits, something neither Trump nor Ms. Harris cares to recognize.”

Meanwhile, when asked about Mary Trump‘s warning about Trump and Social Security, political analyst Craig Agranoff told Newsweek on Wednesday, “While political rhetoric can often stir concerns, it’s important to look at the specific policy proposals and actions of any administration.”

Agranoff continued: “Social Security is a deeply entrenched and vital program for millions of Americans, and any significant changes would likely face substantial political and public resistance. That said, it’s always prudent for voters to stay informed about where candidates stand on such critical issues.”

Democratic Vice Presidential nominee Tim Walz has also made comments about Social Security taxes in the past, saying in 2022, “I don’t think those at the top of the line—millionaires and billionaires—are concerned about the Social Security tax,” to MPR News.

Meanwhile, Mary Trump has recently warned about Donald being terrified of Vice President and Democratic nominee for President Kamala Harris and said that he is “panicking.” Mary has also said that Trump’s Vice Presidential nominee JD Vance is “an unmitigated disaster.”
