The male motorist had pulled into the Shell garage on Station Road, Stechford, Birmingham, on Wednesday night when he was attacked.

A shop worker is heard shouting at the men: ‘Hey, stop, get away from here. I’m calling police!’

At one point, one of the crooks appeared to pull out a huge machete from the

waistband of his trousers before sprinting towards the man.

Later footage shows police officers swarming over the forecourt.

An eyewitness said: ‘The gang came from nowhere and just dragged the driver out of his car.

‘It is not clear if he was a taxi driver or just a driver filling up with petrol.

‘He was very brave to try and stop the robbers especially as one of them was armed with a huge blade.

‘It was shocking but Birmingham is a no-go zone at night now.’
