A 37-year-old woman has been found dead on a far north Queensland road in a suspected hit-and-run incident.

A passing motorist spotted the woman on Junction Road in Mossman, near Port Douglas in far north Queensland, at 6.27pm on Wednesday.

First responders performed CPR, but she was declared dead at the scene.

The woman has been identified as a Mossman loal. 

‘Initial investigations indicate the woman had been struck by a vehicle, which has failed to remain at the scene,’ Queensland Police said in a statement.

Investigators urged anyone who travelled in the area between 6.15pm and 6.40pm to contact Crime Stoppers.

‘Forensic Crash Unit officers are also appealing for the driver involved in the incident or anyone with further information to contact police,’ Queensland Police said.
