The Darksiders series is back, and we’re prepared to step back into the boots of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Revealed with a teaser at the end of THQ Nordic’s 2024 showcase, the upcoming Darksiders game will be the series’ fifth, following three mainline entries and one spin-off.

The brief teaser features no dialogue, nor does it reveal which of the Horsemen we’ll be able to control in the game. It does show the Charred Council, which longtime fans should be familiar with, as flames shoot from their eyes and mouth in appropriately scary fashion before a message appears: “Be Prepared To Ride Again.”

Now Playing: Unannounced Darksiders Game – Official Teaser Trailer

Thus far, we’ve gotten to play as each of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse: War, Death, Fury, and Strife. The first three were each the star of one mainline game, in that order, while Strife and War were both playable in the spin-off isometric action game Darksiders Genesis.

The Darksiders games have all been fairly different from each other, borrowing elements from various games and adding their own distinct flavor. The first game, for instance, was largely a Zelda-like, while Darksiders 2 included elements you’d expect in Prince of Persia and Devil May Cry. Darksiders 3, meanwhile, had clear Souls influences, and Darksiders Genesis combined Diablo combat with shoot-’em-up action.

Though original Darksiders developer Vigil Games closed over a decade ago, Gunfire Games and Airship Syndicate were both founded by ex-employees, and they’ve each since developed a game for the series.
