Thousands of athletes, political figures and performers arrived in Paris on Friday for the Olympics opening ceremony, the first-ever outdoor ceremony for the games that will feature live performances and a floating procession down the Seine River.

The opening ceremony starts at 1:30 p.m. EDT and live coverage began at noon on NBC and Peacock, NBC’s streaming service; it will be edited and re-aired on NBC at 7:30 p.m. EDT.
It’s the first-ever opening ceremony occurring outside of a stadium, starting with the “Parade of Nations” down the Seine River that includes delegations from each of the 91 countries, and ends at the Trocadéro, an area across the Seine from the Eiffel Tower, where there will be performances and the ceremonial lighting of the Olympic torch.
