As it has done with previous games in the series, The Pokemon Company periodically gives away free Pokemon and other in-game goodies for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. A handful of freebies are currently up for grabs, including a rare Herba Mystica gift and a special Fuecoco inspired by the new Pokemon Horizons anime.
These free items are usually distributed via the games’ Mystery Gift function and are typically only available for a limited time, so you’ll want to snag them while you can. To help, we’ve put together this roundup of all the free Mystery Gifts currently available for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Porygon2
Available until June 10
The Pokemon Company is giving away a free Porygon2 to celebrate the Pokemon North America International Championships taking place this weekend.
This particular Porygon2 is based on the one used by Nils Dunlop, winner of the 2024 Europe International Championships. It comes equipped with an Eviolite and knows the following moves:
- Tera Blast
- Ice Beam
- Recover
- Trick Room
To claim the Pokemon, access the Mystery Gift menu and enter the code NA1CTR1CKR00M. This code will only work until June 10, so you’ll need to act quickly if you want to snag it.
Gyarados
Available until June 30, 2024
To commemorate the Pokemon Championships taking place across Asia, The Pokemon Company is giving away a special Gyarados based on the one used by Melvin Keh, winner of the 2023 Singapore Championships.
This particular Gyarados comes equipped with an Aguav Berry and can Terastalize into a steel type. It also knows the following moves:
- Waterfall
- Thunder Wave
- Taunt
- Protect
To claim this Gyarados, access the Mystery Gift menu and enter the code GYARAD0S2023SG.
Cetitan
Available until August 31, 2024
If you still need to fill out your Paldea Pokedex, The Pokemon Company is giving away a special Cetitan. This particular Pokemon is level 50 and comes with a Ferocious Mark, which bestows it with the title “Cetitan the Rampaging” when it enters a battle.
You can claim the free Pokemon by opening the Mystery Gift menu and entering the code L1KEAFLUTE.
Herba Mystica Gift
Available until September 30, 2024
For a limited time, you can snag a free Herba Mystica via Mystery Gift. These rare herbs are typically only obtained through Tera Raids and can be used to cook up sandwiches with special powers, making them very valuable.
This particular Herba Mystica will either be Sweet or Spicy, depending on your luck. To claim it, open Mystery Gift and enter the code SWEET0RSP1CY.
Liko’s Sprigatito
Available until September 30, 2024
To celebrate the launch of the new Pokemon Horizons anime, The Pokemon Company is giving away a free Sprigatito, one of the Paldea region’s three starter Pokemon.
This particular Sprigatito is based on the one owned by Liko, one of the protagonists from the new anime series. The Pokemon comes with a special Partner Ribbon that, when assigned, gives it the title “Liko’s Sprigatito” when it enters a battle.
To receive this Sprigatito, open Mystery Gift and enter the code L1K0W1TH906.
Dot’s Quaxly
Available until November 30, 2024
In another tie-in with the new Pokemon Horizons anime series, The Pokemon Company is giving away a free Quaxly, the water-type starter from Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
This particular Quaxly is based on the one owned by Dot, one of the protagonists from Pokemon Horizons. It also comes with a special Partner Ribbon that bestows it with the title “Dot’s Quaxly” when entering a battle.
To claim this Quaxly, fire up Mystery Gift and enter the code D0T1STPARTNER.
Roy’s Fuecoco
Available until January 31, 2025
The Pokemon Company is giving away another Paldean starter Pokemon for a limited time.
Until January 31, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players can claim a free Fuecoco via Mystery Gift. This particular Pokemon is based on the one owned by Roy, one of the protagonists from the Pokemon Horizons anime.
Like Liko’s Sprigatito and Dot’s Quaxly, this Fuecoco comes with a Partner Ribbon, which bestows it with a special title upon entering a battle. To add the Pokemon to your collection, open the Mystery Gift menu and enter the code 909TEAMUP06.
Pawmot
Available until February 28, 2025
You can add another Pokemon from the Paldea region to your collection with this free Pawmot. To claim it, open the Mystery Gift menu and input the code Y0AS0B1B1R1B1R1.
How To Get Mystery Gifts
All of the aforementioned freebies are available through the Mystery Gift function. This feature does not require a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, but you do need to be able to connect to the internet to use it.
To claim a Mystery Gift, fire up your copy of Pokemon Scarlet or Pokemon Violet and follow the steps below:
- Press X to open the menu
- Select Poke Portal
- Select Mystery Gift
- Select Get with Code/Password
- Input the code when prompted
In addition to free gifts, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet still regularly hold new in-game events. The latest event is now underway until May 26 and gives players a chance to encounter the Paradox Pokemon Sandy Shocks and Iron Thorns in five-star Tera Raids.
