A brazen US Postal Service worker in Tennessee was caught red-handed hurling multiple boxes of what appeared to be mail into a dumpster in a viral video posted to social media.
TikTok user @ Mrs_Denton19 was dumbfounded as she watched the unidentified USPS worker in uniform go back and forth from his mail van and dump the boxes in the Nashville neighborhood of Antioch on Saturday morning.
“I can’t make this up,” she said in bewilderment. “He is dumping mail — federal mail — in the dumpster. And looking around while he’s doing it! This gotta be a crime of some sort.”
After the postal worker was seen throwing out two full boxes of alleged mail, he was seen sifting through the dumpster and appeared to be covering it with other trash already inside.
He then goes back to his van and grabs another box.
“People’s mail, their checks, their bills,” the TikToker said, still in complete shock. He already emptied two in the front, and now he’s going for what’s in the back.”
“Please don’t tell me this is legal. Please don’t tell me this is what y’all do to get rid of mail.”
She points out again that the suspicious-looking mail carrier kept “looking around” to ensure no one was watching him as the postal worker hurls another box into the dumpster before the TikTok ends.
During the video, the USPS worker appeared to have disposed of five boxes, possibly filled with mail.
The TikTok immediately went viral online — accumulating over 50k views since being posted Saturday — and garnered some interesting comments from upset users.
“You should also notify the business who owns that dumpster before the truck comes to pick it up. I bet he came from another route to dump it,” one user commented.
“This is why you need to get USPS informed mail and let you know every piece of mail that’s supposed to be in your mailbox for that day,” another suggested.
“You should have called the Postal police. There is such a thing or you should have called the local authorities. I’m just saying,” commented another user.
Since the video was posted over the weekend, the USPS Office of Inspector General-Mid Atlantic Area Field Office (MAAFO) confirmed to WSMV4 that the local Office of Inspector General is aware of it and is investigating the matter.
They also shared that the employee seen in the viral TikTok has been put on “non-duty status.”
“The local OIG office is aware of the video posted on social media this weekend and is conducting an investigation into this matter,” MAAFO said.
“The alleged involved Postal employee has been placed in a non-duty status.”
