Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer believes Donald Trump is too ‘afraid’ of ‘strong black woman’ Vice President Kamala Harris to debate her.
The veteran New York Democrat claimed the former president was scared to debate the Democratic nominee during a Thursday interview with NBC News.
‘He’s afraid to even debate Kamala Harris. He already said he wouldn’t debate, you know?’ Schumer said.
‘She’s a strong black woman, Donald Trump may not wanna say that, but it’s true and everyone knows it’s true,’ the top Democrat continued. ‘He’s afraid to debate her.’
But Schumer is not the only Democrat to goad the former president into debating Harris, other high-ranking party members are tempting Trump too.

The effort to get the 45th president on a stage to debate Harris is also being pushed by Transportation Sec. Pete Buttigieg in addition to other top liberals.
Buttigieg, using the same line as Schumer, called Trump ‘afraid’ of Harris in an interview with MSNBC last week.
‘Tough talk is this guy’s calling card and now there’s this extraordinary show of weakness,’ Buttigieg said.
‘[Trump] said any time, any place, but more than that he agreed to this specific debate, on this specific network, on this specific date, and now he’s pulling out,’ the secretary lamented on Morning Joe.
‘It shows that he’s afraid,’ Buttigieg continued.
Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, who is widely considered to be Harris’s first choice when it comes to picking a running mate, also used the Democrat’s now-common refrain.
‘Donald Trump is now afraid of debating [Kamala Harris] — and not just because he knows she’s a skilled debater,’ Shapiro posted on X this week.
‘He’s scared because he can’t run away from his record any longer — but here in Pennsylvania, we haven’t forgotten who he is and we aren’t going back.’

Senate Democrats were eager this week to paint the Vice President as a skilled prosecutor while repeatedly referencing Trump as a felon.
Democrats will likely lean into this prosecutor versus felon language more as the race continues in an attempt to highlight Harris’s record as a San Francisco prosecutor before she became a senator.
Harris has even called out Trump publicly for waffling on his commitment to debating in September on ABC.
‘What happened to ‘any time, any place’?’ Harris said in response to a post announcing Trump’s backing out of the event on X.
‘If you got something to say, say it to my face,’ Harris later said at a campaign rally in Atlanta, Georgia, this week, receiving a raucous response for her remark.

Trump, however, had agreed to debate President Joe Biden at the September 10 ABC debate, not Harris.
Still, he did promise to debate, ‘any time, any place.’
Trump campaign communications director Steven Cheung sought to clarify Trump’s commitment after the former president backed out last week.
‘Given the continued political chaos surrounding Crooked Joe Biden and the Democrat Party, general election debate details cannot be finalized until Democrats formally decide on their nominee,’ he said.
‘There is a strong sense by many in the Democrat Party – namely Barack Hussein Obama – that Kamala Harris is a Marxist fraud who cannot beat President Trump, and they are still holding out for someone ‘better.”
‘Therefore, it would be inappropriate to schedule things with Harris because Democrats very well could still change their minds.’
The Democratic National Convention on August 19 to 22 will officially determine the party’s nominee for president, but Harris has already secured enough delegates.
Trump, for his part, is still trying to get out of the face off.
He has since referred to ABC ‘fake news’ and said he would rather have the event broadcasted on Fox News.
