Former President Donald Trump blasted out alarming posts Monday and tore into rival Kamala Harris shortly before the Dow shed 1,200 points following a global sell-off amid fears of a recession.
Trump branded it a ‘KAMALA CRASH!’, in an indication of a how a steep market dive could be the latest issue to light up the presidential race.
His blasts came after market turmoil and potential job losses became the latest factor to upend the election cycle, in a race where Harris has been planning to sell her campaign around millions of job gains and casting Trump as ‘weird.’
‘STOCK MARKETS ARE CRASHING, JOBS NUMBERS ARE TERRIBLE, WE ARE HEADING TO WORLD WAR lll, AND WE HAVE TWO OF THE MOST INCOMPETENT “LEADERS” IN HISTORY. THIS IS NOT GOOD!!!’ Trump wrote Monday morning.
That came as Dow futures were already predicting a steep sell-off, following a week where the Dow and the broader S&P 500 each dropped 2.1 percent.
Trump also he posted a quote from the ‘Legendary Howard Lutnick’, a billionaire investor who tore into Harris even while helping haul in campaign cash for Trump.
Former President Donald Trump posted about a ‘KAMALA CRASH’ Monday morning as markets tanked, an indication his campaign plans to make hay out of market turmoil
He said Harris, who has been rising in the polls, would ‘destroy’ the markets’ and that a Trump loss would drive market turmoil.
‘ Japan down 12%, India down 6%. Germany way down also. U.S. really bad. This is a preview of the world markets without Donald J. Trump in the White House. None of this happens if Trump is in. Kamala and the markets don’t go together. She’ll destroy the markets. She’s in power now and look at what is happening. One week of the fake media saying better polls and you get a market crash,’ Trump posted in quotation marks.
‘The Legendary Howard Lutnick!’ Trump concluded.
‘TRUMP CASH vs. KAMALA CRASH!’ the billionaire wrote in another post on X, although it followed July fundraising where Harris out-raised Trump in campaign fundraising.
Trump running mate J.D. Vance linked the attacks to a call for Harris to hold a press conference
The attacks came after the Dow dropped more than 1,000 points
Trump’s posts come after he previously took credit for the rise in U.S. stocks, saying markets were betting on a Trump victory. He wrote in late January during a surge that ‘THIS IS THE TRUMP STOCK MARKET … BECAUSE MY POLLS AGAINST BIDEN ARE SO GOOD …’
Lutnick, the Cantor Fitzgerald CEO, cohosted a Hamptons megafundraiser Friday, with hopes of bringing in $10 million for Trump.
Later Monday morning, amid steep drops across market indexes, Trump running mate J.D. Vance got into the attacks, linking the economy to Harris’ failure to hold a press conference since stepping in for Biden and securing the Democratic nomination.
(Harris on Sunday was meeting with potential VP picks of her own, and is set to campaign across battleground states starting Tuesday).
‘This moment could set off a real economic calamity around the globe. It requires steady leadership–the kind President Trump delivered for four years,’ Vance, who worked in venture capital in San Francisco and is backed by tech billionaires, posted on X.
‘Kamala Harris is too afraid to answer media questions and cannot lead us in these troubled times,’ he wrote, concluding with a ‘#WheresKamala’ hashtag.
Trump’s calling the job numbers ‘terrible’ follow the uptick in last week’s unemployment rate to 4.3 percent, which is still historically low.
